DJs cut away vocals and blended EBM, acid house, new beat and industrial records into continuous sequences. A stable genre did not yet exist.
The early signature came from selection as much as production. Tracks made for other contexts were re-edited for Goa; fewer vocals, repetition and synthetic timbres enabled long hypnotic sets.
Links with London, Germany, Israel and Japan turned a local practice into a network. Travellers carried tapes home, started parties and returned with new music.
